Hampstead struggle against classy Twickenham side but finish strong

After navigating the vagaries of the train timetables to get ourselves out to deepest darkest Hampton, we took our time to get into the game as Twickenham’s strong runners and slick offloading game took its toll on our defensive lines, leading to several scores in the opening 20 minutes.

Hampstead rallied by playing our unnatural ‘red/amber’ game, leading to Nussbaum breaking the line and trundling off down the touchline with Brown in support to take the offload for our opening try.

Having turned around determined to change our mindset, we immediately conceded another try as Twickenham’s backs offloaded out of 5 tackles on the trot to march down the pitch.

However, this is where Hampstead finally found form. The next 25 minutes were spent entirely in the Twickenham 22, leading them this way and that, with strong scrums, eager running and slick hands lead to Fox-Edwards beating his man on the outside to score our second followed by Price barrelling over the line with a primeval roar for our third.

A hard day, but credit must be taken for keeping at it against a visibly superior opposition and giving them a tough time in the second half.

MoM: The whole team for not giving up, with honourable mentions to the try scorers and Drinkwater for stepping up to play 10.

DoD: Kennedy. He knows why.
