Update

OK - backlog time - number of fixtures this week are re-arranged ties that should have already been played. So want all available. Physios down at training both sessions, so if carrying a knock, get it sorted - we need you. It's been a pretty good response so far this year - 5 teams selected for last 4 weeks, all with spare players. Unfortunately weather & oppo have called a halt to some matches, Hussars being the latest victims of a frozen pitch last Saturday, meaning yet another game to be replayed!

Great weekend for the club, 1st 3 sides travelled to Finchley & did the treble. 1s triumphed 29 - 8. After a shaky first half, we found our stride & looked dangerous. Big thanks to the supportyers who came along, made it feel like a home fixture. 2s overcame a rush of injuries & looked deadly in attack & solid in defence, even though playing last 20 mins with 14, to win 45 -3. The 3s had to contend with a lot of off the ball stuff. Collectively they chose to ignore this come the 2nd half & play rugby, running in 6 tries to shut up the oppo. We think it was a 50 - 0 win.

The Heathens had already notched up a 25-0 win thanks to Barnet 3s pulling out of their League game, so a hastily call to fixture exchange got us a game away to Harrow & triumphed 29-22. So a shame the Hussars couldn't get on the paddock to complete a grand slam

<dir>

There were a number of late shows though & the odd no show - this isn't good enough - a lot of time & effort goes into arranging these games. You are letting down your team mates & the warm ups are affected. Common courtesy please or I'll have to unleash Ali on you all!

</dir>

Up & coming events...

This Weds - Pub Quiz - Sumo will be sending out a reminder

26 Feb - Friday night @ Phibbers to watch Wales v France

NB - all games are being shown in the White Horse as well!

THURSDAY 14 JAN - TRAINING

Training off tonight , even though thaw happening, still not enough disappeared from the track. Games still on presently, though we may have to move home fixtures to Mill Hill as Heath has no hot water (tell us something we didn't know). If we do move games then KO time will be slightly later.

Again stash sale postponed to next Thursday

Good turn out Tues, so don't let it go to waste - Gym or a run will suffice.

If games are on , then meet times will be slightly earlier as we need a longer warm up to refresh ourselves with calls & moves etc

Training - Tues 12 Jan

Lads - the track is still closed but Ali has played a blinder & we have the use of a modern school sports hall this evening. As it is in a residential area, please keep the noise down (I know Ali will find this part partucularly hard). Goes without saying a lot of effort gone into getting this facility, so don't let the side down by going awol. Also - trainers & there will be no physio present!

So here are the re-arrangements for tonight. Meet at 6.45-7pm until 8.30 finish. The address is St. Aloysius College, Hornsey Lane, Highgate N6 5LY. There is very, very limited parking. The closest tube station is Archway, walk up (210, 271, W5 bus will go up the hill) Highgate Hill. Turn right at the Rose&Crown pub (NB Captains - selection will be held here tonight) & onto Hornsey Lane, walk 200 yards and turn right into Thornbury Square. The games hall is at the bottom of the Thornbury Square Hill. So please make an effort to get there and leave earlier in case you get lost (streetmap link below)

We should be back at the track Thursday & the Stash Sale will be on afterwards at the White Horse

Final plea - we are v. close to having the strongest set of sides out so far this season for this coming Sat, so if not given your availability do so now please!

Lads & lasses - training off tonight & presently 3 of our 5 games this Sat are off & expect to hear that the other 2 will be cancelled as well.

Great turn out on Tues for 1st session back ,so if you can get to a gym etc please do so as we are going to have a big back log of very important games coming up.

Obviously stash sale off as well & we'll aim to do this next Thursday

Ali trying to see if there is an option for a short training session on Saturday, possibly in Finsbury Park area. Suggest if so we all then go to Faltering Fullback, Ennis Road, N4 to watch any rugby that may be on (go there anyway if no training session). Say 3 o'clock? Will keep you updated.

Newsletter

Half way thru the season & things going well, if at times its been a struggle. The 1sts are joint 2nd in the league & already thru to the semi finals of the Middx cup, where they will play UCS with a huge chance of us making our first final. The 2s are also 2nd in the league. 3s are currently top of their division. The ladies are swatting all before them & are top of their League, pushing for their 2nd promotion in 3 years. After very rocky starts, the Heathens & Hussars , who were both propping up their respective divisions seem to have both turned a corner & are now mid-table. We even got the Hurricanes out, though had to call upon some very doddery old b#ggers. Glenn Taylor leading the troops once more into battle at Barnet. A narrow loss ensued but we will have our revenge on 20 March, when we host them as a curtain lifter to the annual Legend's dinner.

If any old boys care for the odd run out before then, just let me know. You may even fancy it as a warm up to this weekend's Carol Crawl. The usual murdering of festive songs, drinking far too much. Somehow adding an unauthorised pub into the equation & bypassing one that is on the official list. Hoping we can continue raising well over £700 for local charities. Things KO at the Holly Bush from 6.00. Mole will email full details later. Whisper it, but the unofficial dress code is 'Mime'. We finish at the White Horse, with a late license

Talking of local charities, our Ladies have bared all & produced a 2010 calendar. Retailing at £6, (£1.50 of which goes to charity), what better stocking filler could there be? Available this Thursday after training at White Horse, where we hope you'll pop in for mulled wine & mince pies (hopefully stash & shorts & socks will also be available, if the bl#eders deliver it). If you can't make Thursday, you can get your copy at the Crawl

Training - at present & hopefully for 2nd half of the season, we will have physios present for both sessions. The club is paying for this, so if not on DD or paying your subs, rectify it, or hang your head in shame. This week is the last 2 training sessions before we resume on 5 Jan.

Six Nations - if you want tickets please see Phasey. Like the Autumn Internationals , we will be watching the Welsh struggle on a Friday night, down at Phibbers!

So , Merry Xmas all. See you at training / crawl. Please don't forget to email selection & let's make the end of year something to remember. Sat just gone - all sides won. Shows what we can do when Ali isn't around.

Weekend of 28 & 29 Nov

Don't forget the club's social on Sunday afternoon. BBQ at White Horse from 2 o'clock onwards. You know you don't really fancy cooking on Sunday with that hangover - what better cure than a hair of the dog & a burger. Really blow the cob webs out by watching our marvellous Ladies cement their place at the top of the League by beating Sutton - KO 2.00 at Mill Hill rugby club. Family, friends , partners all welcome!

If injured & at a loose end on Saturday - plenty of games to go & support. The 1s are away at London Nigerians @ Linford Christie stadium on wormwood scrubs common. The 2s are up at Hertford for a top of table clash. The 3s are at home with a derby game v Hackney & the Heathens are away at Northolt. Though the tie of the weekend will be the Hurricanes at Barnet , made up of a few Hampstead legends. One cruel bloke , suggested they be called Hampstead has-beens, but as some of them were never - was's , can't really go with that. They KO at Barnet 2.30.

If circumstances have changed & you can now play, let me know & we'll see if we can get you a run out.

Dates for diary

Up & coming events (hopefully see a few old faces)

Fri Nov 13 (this Friday) from 7pm. Middle floor at Phibbers Bar, Wales v Samoa - a way of Ali keeping an eye on what the 1st team drink!. Phibbers is on junction of Liverpool Road / Holloway Road. Nearest tubes - Highbury & Islington / Holloway Road

Thurs Nov 19 - Calling all Forwards. Ali has got the services of Jon Cooke, Director of Sport at UCS school, who will be leading a session to look at our scrum. He has propped for England Students and played over 200 games for Rosslyn Park. All forwards are asked to attend the session. If you are injured then still come along and pick up a few pointers. Bring your boots

Sun Nov 22 - 1st team cup match, away to Grasshoppers. Support welcome

Sat Nov 28 - Glenn Taylor putting together a team of Legends for a match away to Barnet vets. If interested in being part of the Legends team let me know & I'll forward your details on to Glenn. The more the merrier, as some of us don't know if we can last a full 80 minutes

Sun Nov 29 - Hog roast at White Horse. All welcome to attend, including partners, kids etc. The plan is to support our fabulous Ladies team in their drive for promotion & then back to pub for food & merriment

Sat Dec 19 - The Carol Crawl!!! Mole & Doody productions for one last hurrah!!!

Well done to the 1st team who pumped Hammersmith & Fulham 40 - 6. This takes the team to 3rd in table , only 2 points off the leaders. Not bad reading at moment. 2s lead their League, 3s are second, only behind the leaders on points scored basis. The Ladies are top of their tree, after another fantastic win on Sunday, beating Barnes 61 - 5.

The Heathens & the Hussars are having tough matches & are both having topsy turvy season, but at least we are getting these sides out, when local clubs are struggling to get 2 or 3 teams out. So lets keep it going

.
