The game on Sat between the Huzzars and Ruislip 4ths was a very tough one .Ruislip 4ths were a very young colt side with an average age of 22 in their backs and a sprinkling of older boys in their fowards.Huzzars went down 76-12, battling all the way.Our pack more than held our own with good scrummaging and exellent lose play and for once our lineouts went well.Tinky Taylor scored a try from a pushover and Botcherby was seen everywhere ,showing us what youthfull legs he has.Loz Brown and Rob Phasey put in some very hard work and Mike Taylor had a decent 10 mins before a neck injury forced early retirement.Roger Dearling had an exellent second half against the 25 stone Fijian opposition prop who was foundsaying to him, what a strong man you are.........well done Roger. The important thing was Hampstead never gave up and scored 2 trys.Man of the match goes to Paul Tiernan who had a great game as didAlawiye Rasheed ,who missed the first half (never ask a copper for directions) who got lost on the way , silly boy.Well done to all players for getting stuck in..phasey, dearling, botcherby Lt brown, charters, greggs and Bishop (finally getting low enough) mike and andy taylor, nick owers (debut for the club - tough one) pennycuick, mehran, shirley, malcolm coles, and rob smith............col.

Ahhhhh Hackney Marshes, cheeky cockney characters, piles of poo in the carpark, hidden changing rooms and the very serious risk of getting your pants nicked. All part of the unique rugby experience in the East End. Following the previous week’s successes, a panicked game of touch and a two lineouts were deemed adequate warmup. Sure enough, the Hussars crucified the scrum following the kick off to put Welsh wizard Alex away for a try after a minute. Buoyed by this, a series of high-puffing charges by Jim Henwood and Mark Pasko left ‘Streets’ in tatters with Dave Saunders and James Pennycuick only denied tries by the perilously narrow pitch. Coarse rugby being the changeable beast it is, we then spent 35 mins defending on our line, only pausing for a few break out tries by our guys. I think James Sutherland, Jim and Tim Rossington scored, bit hazy though as I had a cheeky curry the night before and was blowing out my arse. Tight five bossed the scrums with Bad Cop Gavin and Pasko grappling hard and Aidan and I competing well in the line out, hit perfectly by some pinpoint throwing from Stuart McKechie.

Second half seemed to go much the same, Garith Brown ran himself into a torn hamstring and was replaced by an Alike Rob, resplendent with Will Greenwood-esque hands at 12, with Roger adding some nous up front. Comedy moment saw Alex break from 80 yards, abandoned by all his lazy forwards, then held up on the line without a team mate in the same half. Sorry Alex. Bad Cop had a comedy bit of aggro with some bounder who swore at him and James Sutherland was left wondering if he was going to get his face ripped off should he have the temerity to try and score again. Good rugby highlight was a run-in under the posts by Brendan Anderson, epitomising his fantastic support play and James Pennycuick hitting a pair of touchline conversions to make up for the easier ones he’d missed earlier. All-in-all this was a fairly close game up front and in midfield, with our backs showing the superior finishing skills to make the difference. Special mention goes to Olly Rouchard for scoring the only points against us.

Apres Rugby: Tim Bishop shotgunning of a can of cider should be immortalised by the power of youtube by now and a fine bottle of Cockburn’s was a little incongruous on the overground back to the White Horse.

MoM: Drunken consensus gave it to Brendan for Josh Kronfeld-style support play in the back row

Goat of the Game: I’ll give to myself for a substitution incurred when coughing up too much brown stuff tramp style.

Hampstead24vsChesham II0

Warm ups consisting solely of fat forwards practising drop goals and 40 yard passes must have something going for them if this superb performance is anything to go by. A typical Home Counties pack of fat men using coarse language continued to moan at the pustular referee and into the Hussars’ hands, allowing James Pennycuick to feed the rampaging Wheels and elusive Alike Rob. With Chesham seemingly reluctant to make any tackles Naughty Nick lolloped over for a try under the posts, seemingly very keen to escape his propping duties and wisely abandoning a five man overlap. James Pennycuick may have converted, I was struggling a bit too much to see. The tight five held on for most of the first half allowing the back row led by Jim Henwood to cause havoc in the Chesham defence. Plenty of line out ball was won through pinpoint Matt Welsh throws with Tom and Mike chucking lots of ball for Boycey to scrabble around with. I was practically blowing chunks towards the end of the first half so can only remember the typically robust, typically inebriated Chris Evans throwing a six stone winger into a hedge and I think Brendan went over under the posts again. Some big brute of a number seven threw a few punches at Shirley as well – all quite funny before the heavily ‘muscled’ Hussars pack sorted him out*.

Second half saw the farmers get a bit knackered, allowing bad cop Gav Parrott a bit of a rumble straight from the restart. Jim took full advantage of the holes to punch holes at will with Tom, Matt, Aidan and Brendan always on hand to ruck over. As soon as we managed to get parity in the scrums, Roger helping to give some of the Chesham front row an aerial view of th Chess Valley I can remember Boycey scooting over to score and some sneaky Cheshamite charging down the conversion from at least the third attempt. Second half highlight was Alkie Rob’s quick tap then spectacular, unchallenged knock on with the line begging seventy yards out – I wasn’t too bothered, seventy yards is too far to run to skylark. Matters were eventually wrapped up when Tom ghosted between two reluctant tacklers to crash over under the posts. I’m fairly certain James converted.

Apres Rugby, quite legendary train journey back home, hen parties, ripped jeans, hastily abandoned contraceptives, port, scotch eggs, 36 empty cans of lager, a lollypop and a quite superhuman show of dexterity from Boycey fully justifying his MoM award. Who’d have though tubes don’t have toilets in them.

MoM Andrew Boyce

Goat of the Game: Rob Gilham bought the port for the knock on. Good egg.

*grassed him up to the ref.

Outstanding performace of grit and determination from the Hussars on Sat against a fit strong and young vet side of Hammersmith and Fulham. With the opposition having a quite superior pack in size and wait, the Hussars pushed them all over the place and both Roger Dearling and Sumo were exellent in their positions. Andrew Boyce came in at scrum half and played valiantly with good passing and chips ahead and out on the wing their opposition was very tough with our boys but Ben Howden, James Sutherland and Andy Palmer played superbly with Gilham enjoying another good game. Man of the match: Sean Cash with outstanding play by our winger James Pennycuick scoring 2 tries, well played to all............Col

A superb game for the Hussars on Sat against Old Veruliams 3 at their long haired pitch which probably has not been cut for 6 months.Hussars had a very good team to combat their enormous pack with a couple of them coming in at 350 pounds each. However they were pushed back time and time again with great effort from Pascowitch , John Burt and the rest of the pack, including from disney land the one and only Tom Richmond. Sean Cash had a great game with a broken thumb from the week before, kindly strapped up by the teams doctor Paul Tiernan, the Col was most taken with this bravery from the big Canadian, and as a result he will be more in the front line from now on. Our backs thundered into the attack with great swift passing of the ball - Ben Howden man of the match and Rob Gillham showing good form with penetrating inroads into the opposition. The whole team defended very well and a bit more fitness must come from the forwards at the breakdown, however they did perform admirably.Great to see El Presidente on for the second half, the old fellow's technique was exellent to behold, all in all without letting in a try great performance from all at the hussars.........well done lads.........

Great fun though & with a squad of 25 everyone got at least a half and look forward to meeting them again in drier conditions. They certainly handled the weather conditions better than we did.
