A 10s tournament and a friendly get the ladies back on the pitch

On Saturday we held a friendly 10s tournament, hosted at Hendon RFC, attended by 3 other London teams: Kilburn Ladies, Cuffley Ladies and Blackheath Ladies 2nd Team. Despite the ongoing showers of rain, all of the girls pushed through and worked hard in their teams.

3 matches of 10 minute halves later and Cuffley were crowned the winners, having won all of their games. This was swiftly followed with a BBQ for players and supporters and of course the beer pong! It was a great day which gave the chance for new players and those who've not played together before to have the opportunity for game time and to build their skills. Special thanks to Bibby for organising, Hendon for the venue and all the teams who came down and got involved!

On Sunday we travelled further afield to Wimbledon RFC, who hosted us for a friendly to warm up for the season. It was a tough game of three thirds with the sun beating down but all of the hard work on fitness during training kicked in and the ladies pulled out all the stops through to the end. Hampstead started well with a quick score under the posts – this was followed by several more scores in the first 20. The second 20 minutes saw Wimbledon upping their defence and getting their own scores in too – we had to work hard at the tackles chasing back. The sun decided to stay out in full for the last 30 minutes but we managed to keep the lead with a final score of 50-27 to Hampstead.

A big thank you to Wimbledon for hosting and especially the thoroughly enjoyed post-match food! We’ll make sure our girls work on their pint downing for next time…

So after an intense weekend of rugby for the Ladies, we will be back at training on Tuesday and Thursday to work on those areas which were a little rusty at the weekend. Come down and get involved!

Our next matches are 3rd & 4th September - check out the calendar for full details and get down to training in the meantime!
