HRFC u10 - back from Middlesex Festival
By John McGuinness
The lads deserve their medals
We're back from Ruislip this Sunday where 48 U10 teams competed under cold and windy weather, with a few hailstones at the end for fun!
We took 2 mixed teams of 11 boys - a record attendance at Middlesex. We can proudly report that we won all our 8 matches, with an incredible aggregate score of 35 tries to 2 conceded.
Again, well done to all of the boys and the supporting parents. This is a great result for the largest and most important tournament of the season.
Hampstead Red, led by Rhys's whistle won 4 out of 4, (7-0, 6-0, 2-0 , 6-0) . None conceded. We consistently took the opposition on and produced dominant tackles that drove them back time and time again. There was some really great close passing and interplay between our players. We will continue to work on lower tackles, rucking, the scrum half bossing play and using the width of the pitch through passing before the tackle.
Hampstead Yellow, supported by Gorgeous Will, also won 4 out of 4 ( 5-0, 4-0 , 3-1, 2-1 ).
A great start, but strong opposition from London Scottish and Harlequins in the last 2 matches. We built on our strengths, with good passing, great runners and overall good tackling; we were, however, sometimes slow to clear the rucks, and not necessarily decisive enough in the tackle.
Beyond merely the scores, we enjoyed seeing some kids excelling: Jaden bringing with him half the other team beyond their try line; Remy leaving tacklers in his vapour trail; and Albert scoring the decisive try vs Harlequins.
We clearly have a great bunch of boys and two equally impressive and promising teams, with plenty of room to become even better!
The lads deserve their medals (we'll have them next Saturday). Well done, and see you all next Saturday morning.
