Rugby World Cup sweepstake fundraiser

Rugby World Cup sweepstake fundraiser

Harriet Orrell4 Sep 2023 - 19:37

Take part in Hampstead RFC’s fundraising effort and be in with the chance of winning a cash prize!

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, it will come as no news that the 2023 Rugby World Cup kicks off this week.

Hampstead Rugby are hosting a sweepstake to raise money for the club while offering you the chance to win a cash prize.

It costs £5 to enter, which you can do on the website here and 50% of the fee will be put straight towards the running of the club. The other half will be added to the prize pot which will be determined by the winner of this year’s World Cup.

You have until 10am on Friday 8 September to enter and pay the fee, after which you’ll be given a team to support via email and be given an indication of the final prize money (which we will only know once everyone has entered).

Anyone over the age of 18 can enter, so to help the fundraising effort please reach out to your friends and family to join in the sweepstake!

The fine print

After the deadline for entry, each person will be given a competing team from the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France to support. This will hopefully be done before the first game kicks off at 8.15pm on Friday 8 September.

Each person can only have one entry, please do not pay more than once as only one entry will be counted.

This is selected by a random online generator without any human influence or input.

Depending on the number of entrants, each team will likely have multiple supporters, and the prize money will be divided equally among those allocated the same team.

For example, if four people draw Japan, and Japan then win the tournament, all four of those supporters will each receive an equal amount from the prize pot. More on this below.

There will only be prize money for the first place team. This will be made up of 50% of the entrance fees. As the sweepstake is a fundraiser, the other 50% will go towards the running of the club.

The supporters of the winning team, following the final on Saturday 28 October (8pm KO), will then be notified by email by the end of the following week with information of how to claim their prize.

It is their responsibility to contact the club to claim their winnings.

How the prize money will work

For the sake of easy maths, say we have 100 entrants paying £5 each. That’s a total of £500, half of which is fundraiser for the club, leaving £250 for the prize money.

There are 20 teams in this year’s Rugby World Cup, so the 100 entrants will be split evenly among the teams, leading to 5 supporters for each country.

When the winner is decided in the final on 28 October, the 5 supporters will each get an equal share of the £250 prize money, receiving £50 each.
