To mark the beginning of the 2026/27 preseason the Women+ gathered in the sunshine on Hampstead Heath at the weekend for a picnic and some games.
More than thirty people turned up for the first social of the season and free drinks were provided to the team from White Claw and Jubel.
The family friendly fun involved a couple of games of rounders followed by wheelbarrow races, "rugby rounders", frisbee and a forwards v backs tug of war.
In a best-of-three, the backs (who had a couple more people on their end of the rope) came away victorious.
"What a fantastic Saturday celebrating the start of preseason! It was great to see so many familiar faces, and even better to welcome new players and friends to the club," said second team captain Shan Creed.
"I felt a little let down by the forwards during the tug of war, but I was more than happy to award myself Forward of the Match for an outstanding performance in the rugby rounders game.
"A completely unbiased decision, of course..."
Hampstead Women+ preseason is now well underway and welcoming new players of all experience levels, including absolute beginners.
With two teams - at championship and development levels - there's a place for everyone.
They train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the middle of Parliament Hill's Athletics Track from 7pm to 8.30pm.
