Hampstead 1st XV v. Romford Away
Teamwork and speedy tries brings the team their first win of the season!
After suffering a defeat at the hands of Romford on the away leg last season, Hampstead Ladies 1s were keen to show that they were back to their usual form on their second match of the 2016/17 league season. They started as they meant to go on as French new comer Soukaina (Souka) Trouiller opened the scoring with a sprint down the wing. Buoyed by this Hampstead soon go the ball clear to Souka who scored again. Romford replied, but not wanting to feel left out, Hampstead’s other winger Zelda covered substantial yards to run in two tries. Souka fought back through Romford’s defence to run in another try and the first half closed 27-5 to Hampstead.
Romford came back stronger in the second half, giving Hampstead a harder job in the heat and putting in three tries against the away team. But, they proved no match for the pace coordination of Hampstead who replied with another for Souka and two forward tries for Lizzie Wallace and Kiki Oyemhen, the latter putting in an impressive and powerful break through the middle of the Romford defence to score under the posts.
New comer second row Lizzie Wallace was named forward of the match for her strength of play all over the park and the unstoppable speedy Souka took back of the match.
The match closed on a score of 58-22 to Hampstead who took home a well-deserved bonus point win.
