U7s v Eton Manor

The Hampstead U7s team we brought along today (some of whom are actually U6s) performed superbly, displaying excellent defensive lines, some great running, and well gelled attacking formations. We received a number of compliments on how well drilled our players were. We balanced our teams out, both in age and ability, and it was great to see that the older stronger players were taking a more active, independent role in communicating and directing their fellow team mates throughout the matches.

Our set up was slightly less formal; we decided to keep things loose in terms of rules, letting minor infractions slide, and concentrated instead on keeping the games fast, giving constructive feedback to both teams so as to develop and improve their game play. We didn't keep score, but Hampstead were clearly the stronger team, communicating well with each other, and displaying excellent teamwork. Most importantly, all the kids had a great time, many learnt something new, and we received very positive feedback from the parents of both teams.

The Eton Manor U7s coach, Matt, was very keen at my suggestion of a joint training session/matches next season, so I would be happy to come back again!
