#heroic defence

Dear Parents,

Another great rugby day to report with lots of tries and emotion...

London Scottish Festival
We played 3 matches on Sunday at London Scottish in Richmond. We keep to the high standards and great work with 3 wins from three matches:
7-0 vs Wasps
3-0 vs Chiswick white
2-1 vs Chiswick Blue

Aggregate 12-1

Our match vs Teddington was stopped when a gazebo got caught by a wind gust. One of our players got hit and injured by the flying gazebo. As you have seen on Whatsapp, fortunately he is now well and recovering. Get back to us shortly Olly!

Our kids displayed a very strong collective spirit, encouraging each other, and particularly defended superbly. Our defence was especially tested in the last 2 or 3 minutes of the last match, which we spent 5 metres from our try line without conceding a score.
And, of course, we scored 12 tries !

Over the next few sessions we will want to work on:
Passing - shorter and less risky passes in wet and windy conditions, offloads out of the tackle or before contact.
Securing possession in contact - not getting caught facing the opposition, protecting the ball from being ripped, and presenting the ball on the floor.
Cleaning out rucks more effectively - we allowed Chiswick to compete for the ball on the floor.
Winning the scrums on our own put in...
And a bit of kicking (well done Paul!)
Keep improving our discipline too - although much improved. We want to cut out offsides, high tackles and have zero arguing with the ref.

Next events

Training next saturday. Thanks to their hard fought draw against France, we have England playing Saturday at 0815 , so we expect training to be slightly delayed. We will let you know

Ealing Mini festival on 26 october - this is Half term, so we understand not everyone is around, but we would need a couple of players more. Please sign up on Pitchero. Again we generally pick from the first to sign up, but we try to mix it around to give as many players the opportunity to play

Player of the tournament
Well this one is easy; the prize goes to Olly, for his successful tackle against Chiswick‘s gazebo. Olly, we have your medal waiting for you

See you on Saturday morning.

The Athletic Ground, Kew Foot Road, Richmond TW9 2SS, United Kingdom
There is extremely limited parking at the ground with slow entry and exit. With several hundred cars turning up we advise to car share wherever possible or use public transport. The ground is only 10 minutes walk from Richmond rail station. The earliest arrivals at the ground will be able to park in the limited parking on site for a fee of £5. Cars parked at the ground will find they have a slow exit at the end of the morning so please be patient. We recommend the use of the pay and display car parks adjacent to and on the opposite side of the A316 from the club. “Pools on the Park” (Postcode TW9 2SF) and Old Deer Park (Postcode TW9 2RA) which are a 5 minute walk from the grounds across the metal footbridge over the A316. Please see example parking tariffs below. Please allow plenty of time to park, walk to the ground, locate your pitch and get ready. Better still, get the train to Richmond station and walk the 5 minutes to the ground!
